They adhere readily to the surface of the hole and provide good grip, sealing and protection.

However some disadvantages with rubber grommets are connected with the characteristics of rubber itself. Rubber is not stable in the presence of heat and it can either lose its flexibility and become hard and brittle or it can crack, pit or split due to heat. Rubber is also not resistant to most acids, bases and aggressive solvents.
